Le Bergerie School

Chad

When RAF Hospital Wroughton closed in 1996 a number of young nurses and other staff were made redundant. Some of those were part of what was then Wroughton Assemblies of God church ( now Discovery Church Wroughton ) which was meeting in Wroughton parish hall at the time.

The church was seeking to buy a building of their own to meet and worship in and one of those young nurses, Margaret Tanner, very generously gave her redundancy money to help enable the Swan pub on Priors Hill which had closed to be bought.

Margaret went on to train at the Youth With A Mission bible college and then went out to Mauritania in west Africa with YWAM to nurse, teach English and share the good news of Jesus Christ.

Five years ago Margaret moved to Chad in central Africa, still with YWAM, and there met her future husband Celestine. They were married in 2018 and started a church in rural Chad.

The folk of Discovery Church Wroughton have kept in touch with Margaret over the years and recently gave £4400 to enable land to be bought for a permanent school and health centre to be built. Prior to this, school had just taken place in or around Margaret & Celestine’s home.

Building is now well underway and the school has grown very rapidly to having 15 primary and 20 secondary teachers.

We trust and pray that the church, school and health centre will be a blessing to the local people for many years to come.
